Innovative Refrigeration Systems Announces $19 Million Expansion in Augusta County

Innovative Refrigeration Systems is proud to announce a $19 million investment to expand its main campus to 50 acres and 430,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Lyndhurst, Virginia.

Through the acquisition and renovation of an adjacent facility, Innovative will significantly expand its production and engineering capabilities, creating more than 200 new high-wage, skilled jobs in the Commonwealth and strengthening its in-house manufacturing operations.

This investment reflects growing demand for natural refrigerant cooling solutions across life sciences, data centers, cold chain storage, food processing, and other mission-critical industries. Innovative is proud to continue investing in American manufacturing, workforce development, and natural refrigerant technologies built around ammonia and CO₂ systems.

As part of this expansion, Innovative will continue supporting workforce development through registered apprenticeship and hands-on training programs that create long-term career pathways in skilled trades and industrial refrigeration. The company has maintained apprenticeship programs since 2005 and currently offers welding and electrical apprenticeships in Virginia, along with a national refrigeration technician apprenticeship.

Innovative is also thankful for the cooperation and assistance of the VOSH Consultation services team in helping the company maintain the safest manufacturing facilities in Virginia, as well as its team’s continued commitment to the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program across its manufacturing operations.

"This expansion is not just about growth; it's about creating meaningful opportunities for the people and families in our community," said Bob Almon, President of Innovative Refrigeration Systems. “We’re proud to continue investing in Augusta County and to partner with the Commonwealth of Virginia as we create high-quality jobs and strengthen American manufacturing.”

Innovative appreciates the support of Governor Abigail Spanberger, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Augusta County, and all local and state partners who helped make this project possible.
