Distribution Center Expansion
A large, refrigerated distribution facility in Tolleson, Arizona needed to expand refrigeration capacity to support continued growth in the Phoenix market. Operating with two separate ammonia refrigeration systems, the facility required additional cooling capacity while maintaining day-to-day operations.
Innovative Refrigeration Systems was selected to design and execute the upgrade within an active operating environment. The project scope included new freezer, cooler, and cold dock evaporators, along with additional compressors and condensers to strengthen the facility’s refrigeration infrastructure and support increasing operational demand.
A key component of the project was the implementation of Innovative's refrigeration controls platform. UL rated PLC and Motor Control Center panels were custom designed and fabricated for the customers needs. Then our Therminator controls platform seamlessly integrated both new and existing refrigeration assets into a single, unified control system. This approach preserved valuable infrastructure while delivering enhanced system visibility, improved operational insight, a more intuitive operator experience, and energy efficiency.
The facility had a goal set at the beginning of the project to remain 100% operational throughout construction. Our project management team was able to help achieve this goal through disciplined scheduling and execution with the facility, general contractor and other trades partners. The work was completed safely while avoiding disruption to ongoing operations.
The completed project expanded refrigeration capacity, simplified day-to-day system management, and positioned the facility for continued growth.
