One of our most popular packages is the ammonia/CO₂ cascade system.

These systems are not only cost- and energy-efficient, but much more environmentally friendly than other industrial refrigeration systems. CO₂ is a so-called “natural refrigerant,” because it exists in the natural environment. It has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of only 1–compared to a GWP of 3,900 for synthetic refrigerants such as R404A. In other words, it traps 3,900 times less heat in the atmosphere those refrigerants.

CO₂ cascade systems are more energy efficient than R404A and R507A systems by 20%, or up to 50% depending on the system’s design. CO₂ has a higher refrigeration effect and a higher vapor density than those refrigerants, so cascade systems using it require less materials overall. It is also a less dangerous refrigerant–if released, it poses less danger to workers, less danger to flora and fauna, and is non-flammable.
